Abide me use of this space for a personal exposé.  My younger brother Donald retired from the U S Navy in 1980 after a 20-year career. He had gained the rank of Boatswains Mate Master Chief Petty Officer. He had experienced an exciting and varied career. He was aboard the destroyer pictured stopping the missile laden Russian trawler headed for Cuba. He served in the waters of Vietnam and among other assignments he served two tours as a DI at Great Lakes Naval Training Station.  Don passed away February 6, 2017.

I took advantage of this opportunity first to honor my brother but also to encourage you to make similar accountings.  Almost all of us have siblings, children or grandchildren serving or have served in the military. Who is it or what is it we like to talk about or hear about more than our kids or grandkids? We all are very proud of each of them and I for one want to learn more about them.

The editor of this news-letter is always looking for items of interest. I can’t think of a thing that would be more news-worthy.
