Chapter #313 member William J. Britt, 85, of Sparta, IL, passed away at 2:47 AM, Wednesday, January 16, 2019. William was born on March 1, 1933, in Lake Providence, Louisiana, the son of Edward and Eva (Walton) Britt. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, he then returned home and married Bobby Mae Whatley on June 2, 1953, in Martinez, California, and they shared 65 years of marriage. Mr. Britt was a retired truck driver for the Super  value IGA distributors, and he was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sparta, VFW Post # 4325, Mattoon, Illinois, American Legion Post # 487, Chester, the D.A.V., V.U.M.S., and the Marine Corp League # 759, Lynchburg, Virginia. Bill was also a  long time member of KWVA and member of Shenandoah Valley Chapter #313.
He is survived by his wife; Bobby Mae Britt, of Sparta, children; Elaina (Kenneth) Tapley, of Evington, Virginia, Jeff Britt, of Sparta, 4 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild on the way. Mr. Britt was preceded in death by his parents, 1 son, 1 daughter, 1 grandson, 2 sisters, and 2 brothers. It was Mr. Britt’s request to be cremated and memorial and a military graveside service will be held at a later date.
