Leonard L. Laconia

Leonard L. Laconia, 92 of Winchester, VA, passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at Evergreen Health & Rehab.

Leonard was born in 1931 in Shenandoah, VA, the son of the late, James Martin and Ruth Ann Laconia.

 

He served our country during the Korean War in the United States Air Force retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. Leonard retired after 20 plus years of service in 1993 from the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles as a Driver’s License Examiner. He was a member of the Korean War Veterans Association and was a charter member of the Winchester Chapter. Leonard enjoyed fishing, hiking and was an avid Redskins fan. He was also on the senior bowling league in Winchester.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Julia whom he married on September 22, 1952; sons, James T. Laconia and Leslie C. Laconia; 3 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; brothers, Hubert Laconia, Donald Laconia and James Laconia (Margaret); his brother in law Joe Gregor and his many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Leonard was also preceded in death by his sister Lela Gregor and his brother John Laconia.

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation Friday, Nov 3, from 11am until his Funeral Service at 12noon at the Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Shenandoah Memorial Park. Following the committal service all are invited back to the Omps South Chapel Reception Room for a continued time of food and fellowship together.
