COMMANDER'S COMMENTS
We were involved in many parades, including the Fireman’s Parade during the Apple Blossom Festival in 2019 with special guests M. Gen. Pyo and wife. There were 22 members who participated in the parade and later were invited to join the General at Wayside Inn for dinner. Our Chapter took a bus trip to visit the WW II Memorial at Bedford, VA. The trip was arranged by Lew Ewing. We had three fundraisers during 2019, and not so good, due to the virus none in 2020. The virus caused us to cancel meetings, and it wasn’t until June that we again resumed meetings. We received 10,000 face masks from South Korean government which were given out to schools, sheriff’s departments, fire departments, churches, and many
other places needing masks. At our October meeting, we had 8 guests from the Council of Korean Churches of Greater Washington who brought gifts of vests, and handkerchiefs for us. Also, the Republic of Korea sent insulated mugs, with the message “We Go Together”, and finally on Veterans Day 14 members and 5 wives went to D C to the Korean War Memorial for the wreath laying ceremony and then to the Sheraton Pentagon Hotel where POSCO, the largest steel company in South Korea passed out plaques to veterans who served in the conflict from June, 1950 to July, 1953. Afterwards, the group travelled to Mission BBQ in Gainesville for supper before returning to Winchester. The bus arranged for us by the Embassy was a 54 passenger bus. Josh Morimoto has headed up the recruitment effort for the Chapter, which is paying dividends at this time with 5 new members, and several real possibilities of others to join our Chapter. As I finish my term, I again want to thank everyone for their trust, and cooperation, and wish that you’ll give your full support to the new officers who take office in 2021.
