Bill Heishman, 89, of Shelbyville, IL, passed away Sunday, September 16, 2018 at the Mattoon Health Care Center. He was born March 3, 1929 in Winchester, VA.
Bill is survived by his wife, Donetta Heishman, his son, William H. (W.H.) Heishman II, and his step-daughters, Terry (Bradley) Shoaf of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Lavenda (Thomas) Denney of Winchester, VA.
Bill was a distinguished Marine veteran of World War II and Korea where he suffered wounds that would require treatment for the remainder of his life. He retired from the Marine Corps and then worked for the Department of the Army and the US Post Office before becoming a farmer.
Bill raised Scottish Highland cattle, goats, sheep, and other animals on his family farm in Winchester, VA, before retiring to Shelbyville with his wife, Donetta.
He was a good heart who loved people, good food, travel, and fishing.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 3, at Shelbyville First United Methodist Church with visitation one hour before the service. Memorial contributions may be made in Bill’s name to Lincoln Land Hospice or to his church.
