(Cont. from Page 4).

He was separated from active duty at Ft. Meade, MD. After serving six more years in the inactive reserve, he received his Honorable Discharge.

John returned home to WV. married Virginia, an (RN) and a High school classmate, and a new era in life began. They moved to Winchester, VA in 1961. John established an insurance and financial services agency serving some 1500 clients in the Winchester area. His wife began a new career as a nurse instructor at the Winchester Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She has retired from her profession, but John continued to maintain his agency on a limited basis.

He and his wife are proud of their children and grandchildren. John enjoys watching the St. Louis Cardinals during baseball season and the WVU Mountaineers during football season. John also continues to play his accordion on special occasions.

His memories of times in Korea are still very vivid, and becoming a member of Chapter 313 allows him a great opportunity to share them.

Reminder to all members. Especially to the newer members.

We want to remind everyone that you can still purchase an engraved brick honoring a friend, family member or yourself to be installed at our Korean War memorial at Jim Barnett park in Winchester. The majority of our members have already purchased their bricks, but we want everyone to have their bricks at the Memorial.

Also, the Colonel James Wood Chapter of the SAR will be holding a Flag ceremony at our Memorial on June 14th, (Flag Day) and if you purchase yours now, we hopefully can have it engraved and installed before then for all of our guests to see.

The 4 X 8 inch bricks cost $100.00 ea. And you can have 3 lines of copy on the brick with 16 characters per line.

To purchase a brick, please contact Fred Haymaker by phone at 540-662-1997 or by e-mail @ ifhaymaker@Yahoo.com. Fred will send you an Order Form for you to complete and send back to him along with your check. Don’t wait, act today. Place your order now !!
