Bill Jackson, Jr.

Bill Jackson, 96, passed away Sunday, November 16th, surrounded by family. He lived with

his wife, Barbara, at Shenandoah Valley Westminster Canterbury, in Winchester. Bill was

born in Bronxville, NY on February 1, 1929, and attended schools there. He furthered his

education at the University of Maryland earning a B.A. in Political Science.

 

From 1948 through 1972, he was a member of the US Marine Corps Reserves, serving in

active duty in Korea, from 1952-1954. His proudest memory from the war was that the

entire unit he commanded made it home. He retired from the service in 1972 having

achieved the rank of Major.

 

Bill’s career included retail management with major department stores; entrepreneurial

endeavors including owning a Western Auto store, Royal Trophies and real estate sales. He

enjoyed volunteering, was a longtime member of the Winchester Rotary Club and the

Masons.

 

Bill was a longtime member of Braddock Street United Methodist Church and more

recently of St. Augustine Anglican Church. He was an avid golfer and shot three “holes in

one” over his lifetime.

 

He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Barbara (his first wife, Betty died in 2011), his three

children, William Jackson III of Cross Junction, Ann Huddleston (Mike) of Upper Gwynedd,

PA, and Ellen Fox (Richard) of Mooresville, NC; 7 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

 

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 7th at 1:30 at Westminster

Canterbury. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shenandoah Valley

Westminster Canterbury Fellowship Fund, 300 Westminster Canterbury Drive Winchester,

Virginia 22603.
