Saying Goodbye to Doug Purnell. RIP.

28 Members attended the service

Our sincere condolences go out to the Purnell family for their loss  of our friend and military comrade.  

  “Doug” Purnell. 1931-2017.

“Doug” Purnell was a veteran of the United States Army, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was deployed to South Korea during the Korean conflict where he was assigned to Company B of the 76th  Engineering Construction Battalion as a heavy equipment operator; clearing land for access roads, bridges and airport landing strips throughout many regions of that country. Upon his return from the military “Doug” worked at the Martinsburg Veterans Administration Medical Center in the Engineering Department as Supervisor of Grounds and Transportation Maintenance, retiring after 31 years of service.

The VFW 2123 Honor Guard   rendered Military honors, with our member, Capt. Ed Ellis in charge.  Members Lew Ewing, Gerald Lunt, Jack Keep and Narce Caliva represented Chapter 313 at the Mt. Hebron  committal service. 

Lew Ewing         HONOR FLIGHT TRIP

The Top of Virginia Honor Flight group has re-scheduled the next Honor Flight trip to visit the War Memorials in  Washington, DC. Note the date. 
 Next trip: Saturday, 7 October, 2017!
