We are heading into the busiest part of the year, as far as activities go. May 1st is the Apple Blossom Fireman’s Parade. On May 7th, ten of our members plan to do the Tell America day at Mercer Middle school in Aldie, VA.. For the May 25th Memorial Day Parade in D C, we’ve been given 13 slots, which have all been filled. June 6th and 7th at the American Military Heritage Museum, 811 Fairfax Pike, Stephens City, will be a recognition of the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe from 0930 – 1700. . Mr. Fravel, retired professor from LSU has collected equipment from WW II, Korea, Vietnam, and has them well displayed. I’m hoping to have a table at that site to be able to present our Chapter to other veterans who will
tend the demonstration, and will be looking for volunteers to man the table at least part time. June 20th is the night of the Royals baseball game, where we will honor all veterans, and those agencies which provide assistance to veterans. On June 25th, members, spouses, and significant others of Chapter 313 will be transported to D C to attend the 1000 ceremony marking the start of our war. After the ceremony, we then will travel to Gainesville Mission BBQ for lunch and should be back in Winchester in the early afternoon.
As I stated at the February meeting, if we can’t fill the position of Chapter Hospitality Chair, we will not have a summer picnic or a Christmas Luncheon. Marshall DeHaven has said he would be willing to help anyone who would assume this role. So folks, the ball is in your court, we need to keep this going forward, now is the time to get involved.
