Francis Yowell Hudson
Francis Yowell Hudson, 88, of Boyce, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home on January 20, 2017.
Francis was born on January 31, 1928, the son of Floyd O. and Mary Frances Hudson.
He graduated from Boyce Agriculture High School in 1947 and served in the U. S. Army/66th Topographical Unit in Germany from 1951-1953 during the Korean Conflict.
He was a professional duckpin bowler for many years, rising to the 5th best on the East Coast during his competitive years. He was a founding member of the Boyce Volunteer Fire Company and in his later years enjoyed installing new officers.
Francis was a 32nd degree mason and served as Master of Treadwell Lodge #213 on two separate occasions. He was also Treasurer and Instructor of Work at Treadwell for many years. He was District Deputy Grand Master for the 3rd masonic district. He also was a member of Unity Lodge #146 in Front Royal.
He worked for many years at Carr Publishing in Boyce as a linotype operator and retired from Abex Corporation after many years as an International Cataloging Manager.
He married Audrey Brown on July 1, 1951 and in 2016 they celebrated their 65th anniversary.
Surviving is his spouse of Boyce, VA; daughter, Jeanne Hudson of Boyce; son, John Hudson and wife, Kathy of Berryville; grandson, Zack Hudson of Boyce, grandson, Johnathan and wife, Falon of Winchester, grandson, Patrick Hudson of Berryville; great-granddaughter, Harper of Winchester; brother, Louis Hudson and wife, Ann; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Two brothers, Floyd O. Hudson, Jr. and Graham Hudson, preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends on Monday, January 23, 2017 from 6-8 PM at Enders & Shirley Funeral Home, Berryville, with a Masonic service being conducted by Treadwell Lodge #213.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 AM on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church in Berryville with Rev. Jeff Butcher presiding. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Berryville.
Pallbearers will be Zack Hudson, Johnathan Hudson, Patrick Hudson, Bob Boden, Sammy Buckley, Russell Gilkison, Floyd Hudson and Douglas Wann.
