On the morning of June 6th, 1944 under the leadership of Gen Dwight D. Eisenhower, the Supreme Commander of all Allied Forces embarked on what was an epic battle against the Axis forces,  

consisting primarily of the German army.

The ground, air, sea invasion included 20 thousand Higgins boats transporting men and equipment to the bea-ches of Normandy, France against the well-equipped, well-manned well -prepared German army entrenched on the cliffs overlooking the beaches. At the 75th anniversary of the D-Day invasion on June 6th, Vice-President Mike Pence was the featured speaker at this Memorial.

If you have never seen this beautifully designed memorial, then it should be on your list of things to do. It can be a very emotional experience to reflect on the sacrifices made by all the young men who died during that battle.
