   TAPS FOR FRANCIS HUDSON

The funeral for Francis Hudson was conducted on Tuesday, Jan 24 at 11 am in the Duncan Memorial Methodist Church in Berryville, VA.  The following chapter members were present for this service:

Lew and Mary Jane Ewing, Charles Hoak, Marshall DeHaven, Herb Taylor, Narce Caliva, Josh Morimoto, David Clark, Rev. Raleigh Watson, and Ollie Thompson.    The first 6 members also went to the grave site service, and the lunch for attendees after the service.     Francis served with the U.S. Army’s 66th Topographical Unit in Germany from 1951-1953 during the Korean Conflict.  I sat with Harry Renton, who served with Francis in this Unit in Germany during the luncheon. He indicated he worked closely with Francis in producing maps of both East and West Germany to support our troops.  Planes took photos which were then used to make the maps. Francis was the founding member of the Boyce Volunteer Fire Company and installed new officers. He also worked for many years at the Carr Publishing in Boyce as a linotype operator and retired from Abex Corporation after years as an International Cataloging Manager.   He and his wife, Audrey were long time members of the Duncan Memorial UMC along with both Lew and Mary Jane EwingLew also served as Usher for this service.

FROM THE CHAPLAIN

Rev. Raleigh Watson

During the past month, we have been saddened by the loss of the wives of two of our long-standing members: Gary Fletcher’s wife Neva, and Chuck Bachman’s widow, “Jackie”. Both departed life on earth in February. Our prayers go out to both families.

At the time of this writing, John Moreland is in the hospital, recovering from a heart attack, insertion of stents, and undergoing tests and treatment for other problems. Also, Tony Bucaloy’s wife Paula is in hospital recovering from double pneumonia.

I suggest a phone call might be appreciated by any of those and the following, who continue to need our best wishes and simply to know we are thinking of them.
